Broken

I've broken the blog.

I wasn't in the least bit happy about it. Obviously.

All I wanted to do was have a look what the new Blogger Dynamic blog would look like, so I tinkered away and clicked a few keys. And Voila, a dynamic blog I didn't like because the header was gone and so was the About me, Follow Me buttons, and Google Friends Connect button. How is anyone supposed to navigate a blog and know where they have landed, and how to get back to it, if it's not all clearly signposted? So, no, dynamic blogs weren't for me. Only, I lost what I had and now, though I have most of it back, I can't figure out how to change the colour of the post title or the posts done this month, bit. I know where to look on the dashboard for the post title colour, but when I click on it, there is only the option to change the font and size, no colour pallette.

So it's still broken.

I have been considering a re-vamp, but that's all it was, a wispy thought that came and went, that I didn't have half an intention of implementing yet. Now though, I'm annoyed. Both with myself and the blog itself. Pah.

I hope that all the odd colours and wonky feel of the place doesn't put people off. It's still me in here. Promise.

  1. I'll still be here, if I can read it, I'm happy :-)

I do agree though, blogger is definitely not the most intuitive of mechanisms, is it?

  2. Thanks Sarah. It's still annoying me when I come back to it. I'm not great with stuff like this. Hopefully I will gradually sort it back out. Or have that complete overhaul I thought about!

  3. When I first became a Blogger, back in April of 2010, mainly because my publisher said I needed to have a site to help promote my memoir, I spent way too many HOURS, DAYS, WEEKS fiddling with the look of the blog: changing templates, changing fonts, etc. etc. Such a waste of time. And when Blogger recently started glitching, I got my WordPress blog. But mainly I don't want to lose my Blogger blog because this is where I keep in touch with all the Blogger friends I've made, and route them to my WP blog. So I've stopped tinkering! I did figure out the NEW Blogger interface, but I don't do anything that might mess up the look/format. If this makes sense. I SO sympathize with what you're all going through. If you come over to my blog, you'll find a link to Denise Covey's ("L'Aussie") post on what horrible thing happened to HER.

But your blog is readable, which is good because it's the message that's important. And you want to spend your time being a mother and a writer, not fiddling with Blogger. At least that's what *I* think!!

  4. I briefly considered the dynamic style, but then I saw some other blogs that used it and decided it wasn't for me. The ones I saw that it worked best with were recipes, photos as the focus of the blog and blogs that didn't have a narrative.

Our writing blogs have a story behind them - ie. following the start of a story from its conception through to its 2nd/3rd drafts etc, and all the problems you've encountered along the way - so the original style works best.

I like your blog; it feels familiar when I visit, so I always know I'm in the right place.

  5. Oh, it's so annoying when technical things go wrong! I'm sure you'll have it back to normal.

  6. I quite like it. But if you still want to change it, go to template/customize

  7. I know exactly what you mean. I too tried it out and not very happy although I did manage to keep most of the stuff. My main problem was there seemed to be nowhere to navigate to the dashboard. When I did finally get there it said I don't follow anyone - I'd lost all the blogs I'd followed! Luckily I did mange to get them back - eventually...
    You have my sympathies...

  8. Oops. Easily done. It still looks like your blog - it won't make any difference to any of us, I'm sure! (Note to self: do not tinker with blog) x

  10. I haven't checked out the new blogger yet, and have no plans to. I like my site, and I just did a whole bunch of template tweaking. I actually find Blogger easier to set up than Wordpres. WP gives you more options, but it takes longer to set up and the widgets are a pain. For one of my sites the theme I chose didn't include a subscription button and it took me forever to find a widget that would work. I should actually redo that blog, I've been ignoring it.

  11. Your blog is looking really clear and easy to read as it is now. I know how you feel though because I did exactly the same thing. I managed to find the colour palettes. If you're still interested in changing things you have to click on the advanced changed to the template and they're all the colours of backgrounds, text, sidebars and everything. Hope that helps.

  12. Thank you all for your lovely comments. Blogger and I have our glitches, but I'm sure we'll work them out :)

  13. I really like how your blog is now. I've been thinking about playing around with the Blogger changes but I am so bad at that kind of stuff, I'm chicken. I think now I will just let it go as I can imagine I'd have a similar experience to what happened to you.

    Have a great weekend, Rebecca!
